Why Hire a Car From Vancouver

Vancouver sits at the gateway to some of the best driving in Canada. The city is easy to leave by road, and within an hour or two you reach the sea, the mountains, and the forest. Buses and trains cannot take you to the quiet viewpoints and small towns that make a trip special. With your own car hire from Vancouver you set your own route and your own pace. You carry your bags and your gear without a fuss. For most trips out of the city a hired car costs less than taxis and ride apps over a few days, and it gives you far more freedom.

Where to Pick Up Your Car

We make the start of your trip simple with branches placed where travellers actually need them. You can collect your car close to the airport, near downtown, or in a nearby suburb, so you are on the road fast.

Handy pickup points for a Vancouver departure:

  • Richmond, close to Vancouver International Airport
  • Downtown Vancouver, for city hotels and visitors
  • Burnaby, for the eastern side of the city
  • Surrey and Coquitlam, for the Fraser Valley side

Tell us where you are staying and when you want to leave, and we will point you to the closest branch. A local pickup keeps the start of your trip calm and quick.

Airport Pickup From YVR Made Easy

Flying into Vancouver? Here is a money saving fact. The rental desks inside the airport terminal carry high airport fees and extra taxes. Our branch sits just offsite, a short shuttle ride away, so we skip those heavy fees and you pay less. When you land at YVR, collect your bags and call us on 604-303-0063. Our free shuttle brings you to the branch where your car is ready. You still get a fast start, but at a better price than the in terminal desks.

What You Need to Hire a Car

Hiring with us is simple, but you do need the right papers. Bring these and your pickup takes only a few minutes.

  • A valid class 5 driver licence, or the equal from your home region
  • The original licence, since we do not accept a photocopy
  • A major credit card in the main driver name
  • Your booking details or reference number

A learner licence does not qualify. Any extra driver must show the same valid licence. If you are visiting from abroad, an English licence or an international permit with your home licence works well.

Choose the Right Car for Your Journey

The best car depends on where you plan to go from Vancouver. Pick by your group size, your bags, and the roads ahead.

City and short trips

An economy or compact car is easy to park and kind on fuel. A model like a Toyota economy car suits a couple or a solo driver on a short run. It is the cheapest way to hire and to fuel up.

Mountains and winter

An SUV gives you height, grip, and space for a drive to Whistler or a ski trip. If you plan snow driving, ask us for a winter ready SUV, since many mountain highways need winter tyres.

Groups and family trips

Travelling together? A minivan or an eight seater van keeps the whole group in one vehicle with room for bags. It is far easier and cheaper than two cars. Tell us your group size and we will match the right van.

Please note we run a practical fleet for real trips. We do not carry exotic or sports cars. If you want honest value and a reliable ride for the road, we are the right fit.

Age Rules and Young Drivers

The main hire age with us is twenty five and over, with no extra age fee. We also welcome younger drivers. Drivers aged nineteen to twenty four can hire with a small young driver fee added to the daily rate. The licence rule is the same for every age, so a valid class 5 licence or the equal is a must. This keeps a Vancouver road trip open to students and young families too.

Deposit, Insurance, and Mileage

Three things are good to know before you set off.

Deposit

At pickup we place a security hold on your credit card. It is a hold, not a charge, and we release it in full on return. A smaller car carries about five hundred dollars for drivers twenty five and over, and an SUV or van carries about one thousand dollars.

Insurance

In Canada liability and collision cover is required on all vehicles. You can bring your own valid cover with the original paper and a small transfer fee. Or you can add our Damage Waiver at the counter for simple peace of mind.

Mileage

Airport and non local renters usually get unlimited kilometres inside the province, which is ideal for a road trip. Out of province driving, such as a run into Alberta, has a daily limit with a small fee for each extra kilometre. We will explain the plan for your route.

One Way Hire From Vancouver to Calgary

One of the best trips from here is a one way drive east. You can pick up in Vancouver and drop off in Calgary, so you never backtrack. The route runs through the Rockies and the views are stunning. A one way fee applies and must be set on your booking, so tell us your plan from the start. This is a favourite for travellers who fly in to one city and out of the other.

The Best Road Trips From Vancouver

Once you have the keys, the coast opens up. These drives are the favourites, and each one is easy from a Vancouver pickup.

  • Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler, about two hours of pure mountain views
  • Vancouver to the Okanagan, for lakes, wine country, and sun
  • Vancouver to Calgary, a one way drive through the Rockies
  • Fraser Valley loop, an easy day trip with farms, falls, and small towns

Pick an SUV or a minivan for the mountain routes, and tell us your plan so we set the right mileage. Ask us about our road trip guides and one way options when you book.
